Why You Should Get a Pool Fence
Importance of pool fence
There are plenty of reasons to consider getting a pool fence. Whether you’re a first-time pool owner or a veteran pool owner, you can benefit from having a pool fence.
One of the most cited reasons to purchase and use a pool fence is safety. If you have small children or pets in your home, the fence will keep them from jumping or falling into the pool without supervision. Consider the various types of pool fences available and be sure to get a fence that is difficult to climb and has no gaps in it that your kids or pets could easily get through. It should have a childproof lock and be tall enough that your pet can’t jump over the fence and get into the pool.
Another majorly cited reason for getting a pool fence is security. You can keep unwanted visitors from using your pool without permission.
Privacy is another reason to have a pool fence. Depending on who is using the pool and how they’re using the pool, you won’t have neighbors or people walking by peering into your pool area watching you or your family or friends’ pool activities.
While most public pools have some form of pool fencing, some places are now also requiring residential pool owners to install a fence for the aforementioned reason of safety. Even if your neighborhood or city doesn’t currently require you to have a pool fence, you might be required to anyway in the future.
In some cases, your homeowner’s insurance company might require you to install a pool fence. If not, the somewhat unknown benefit of installing a pool fence anyway is that it could save you money on your homeowner’s insurance. If your fence has a bolted gate, you’ll likely qualify for a discount. Double check with your insurer to see if there are additional requirements to meet.
If you are thinking that a pool fence will be extremely expensive to purchase and install, you might be pleasantly surprised at how affordable many of them are once you begin your search. The less expensive pool fences are priced around $60 to $300. The pricier options top out around $5,000, and there might be even more expensive pool fences if you desire something custom-made. There are a wide variety of styles and sizes, so do some research to see which fences match your own home’s design and meet your personal needs for your pool. If you want a fence that is hard to climb but easy to see through, you might want a glass fence. However, if you want a lightweight pool fence that is easily removable and replaceable, you might decide to purchase a mesh fence instead. Figure out what would work best for you, and then go from there and research the pricing.
Additionally, if you don’t want to install the fence yourself, you can purchase a pool fence from a fencing company and hire them to install the fencing for you.
If you’re getting a new pool or you already have the pool, there is no reason not to at least consider installing a pool fence. You might find that you get more enjoyment out of your pool time with the additional privacy, security, and safety that a pool fence brings.
